Windows Live Messenger reaches 100% download then "ROLLSBACK" what gives?
Can anyone please explain why in the world does the download rollsback when it reaches 100% and instead says "A network error occured while attempting to read from file C:\Windows\Installer\Install_ {508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9FO3BO}.msi" and then it says below "Please close all other open programs, and then try again. It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working. hr:0x80070643". But all my other programs are closed (i.e windows live messenger, advance system care, smart ram, firefox) the only program running is avast. But when I stopped exited it the same error message appears. Can someone please help me with this cause its annoying.Regards,Tim

Have you tried running the installer in Vista compatibility mode and as an administrator? Right mouse click on the executable -> Properties -> Compatibility (tab) -> Check both 'Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows Vista' and 'Run this program as an administrator'.Do you have UAC enabled? Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change User Account Control settings -> Pull the slider all the way down to 'Never Notify'.There is also a possibility that you ran into some known CEIP issues. Anthony_Mann said:Description:An issue related to the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP isalso known as SQM) in the Windows 7 Beta is causing crashes of Explorer, MSI-based installers, and other applications on some PC's.In order to resolve the issue, impacted customers need to run the following command from an elevated command prompt. This procedure will permanently stop crashes related to CEIP. A machine not currently affected by this problem will work fine and new installations of Windows 7 Beta are also not affected. Background: Microsoft deployed a configuration change which exposed this problem. The procedure provided below removes those changes (registry keys) to prevent further CEIP related crashes.Detailed instructions: Select and copy the following to your clipboard: regdeleteHKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions/va/fClick on "Start", then "All Programs", then "Accessories"Right click on "Command Prompt", then click on "Run as administrator" In the UAC prompt, verify that the programs name is "Windows Command Processor" and then click "Yes" Right click on the "Administrator: Command Prompt" windows black area, then select "Paste" Press "Enter", you should see The operation completed successfully. If you see ERROR: Access is denied, please make sure you followed Step 3. Close the "Administrator: Command Prompt window Please respond to this thread if you have any questions about this.Thanks-Tony Mann Windows Client IT Pro Audience Manager for Web Forums

What Frop said works
January 24th, 2009 11:19pm

Hi Frop,I tried what u said however I don't see the Change User Account Control settings nor do I see the words/option "Never Notify". Instead howeve, what I do see is "Turn On User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure". I've already done the CEIP fixes as you advised. By the way I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1. I tried installing after fixing the CEIP however, the download still rollsback. Kindly advise please.

I'm sorry, but so far I've only been tinkering with fresh Windows 7 installs. There are numerous threads on people having additional problems when they upgraded Vista to Windows 7, so unfortunately I can only recommend that you start out with a fresh install.

For anyone experiencing this problem, this should help. I have XP but the same advice should apply to other OSs. My name is Joan and I'll be assisting you. I understand that you are unable to install the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. Let me assist you with your concern. David, it's most likely that the installer was not able to remove some of the old components during the installation of the latest version of Windows Live Essentials, thereby getting the error. What we need to do is to download a tool that will help us in removing the old version and all of its components in your computer, the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. After which, we'll reinstall the updated version. Don't worry, I know this may sound complicated but I have here the steps you should follow to resolve the issue. 1. Verify that you are logged on as a user who has Administrator rights. If you are sure you are logged in as an Administrator, you no longer need to perform this step. a. Click Start, click Control Panel and then click User Accounts. * If you are part of a network domain, use one of the following methods: - Select your account from the drop-down list, and then click Properties. - In the Group membership window, make sure that you belong to the Administrators group * If you are not part of a network domain, verify that your account icon shows Computer Administrator under your account name. 2. Temporarily disable your firewall. You can usually disable your firewall by right-clicking on its icon near the time on your computer. 3. Clear the entries in the Windows Installer database by using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility: a. Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from this site: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4- 45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe b. Start the utility. Click any Windows Live entries that the Utility identifies, and then click "Remove." c. Click "Exit." 4. Make sure that the following applications are closed (If you have them installed). * MS Outlook * Windows Explorer 5.
